In a federal court, Kenneth Dintzer, the top lawyer representing the DOJ in the antitrust lawsuit against Google, argued that Google's monopoly power in search has suppressed progress in the field of AI innovation. "What has been going on for the past 12 years is Google has been maintaining its monopoly," Dintzer told the court. "Would we have seen ChatGPT six years earlier?

Senator Chuck Schumer is leading the charge to regulate AI. Schumer, has circulated a framework for future AI regulations, which he said would help avert "potentially catastrophic damage to our country while simultaneously making sure the U.S. advances and leads in this technology." The US leads the world in the number of approved AI bills, but only 10% of US federal AI bills were passed in 2022
