Wendy’s is automating its drive-through service using an artificial-intelligence chatbot powered by natural-language software developed by Google and trained to understand the myriad ways customers order off the menu. The goal is to streamline the ordering process and prevent long lines in the drive-through lanes from turning customers away, said Wendy’s Chief Executive Todd Penegor.

Predictive software is Palantir's (PLTR) calling card, so it is no surprise to see the company among the beneficiaries of the AI trend. Palantir makes advanced data analytics tools that help corporate and government customers sort through data, and is famously credited for helping the Pentagon locate Osama bin Laden.

Open AI recently unveiled its latest AI model, GPT-4, which can process both text and image inputs to generate various types of responses. However, the GPT-4 API is not publicly available and can only be accessed by a limited number of individuals who pay a monthly fee of $20. According to Acumen Research generative AI could add between $150 billion and $275 billion to the apparel, fashion and luxury sectors’ operating profits in the next three to five years. “I never thought I’d see something like this in my lifetime,” says Rupert Breheny, a Google technical specialist in AI augmented creativity, who has experimented with creating never-before-possible fashion imagery.




👨🏼‍💻 AI Advancements

AI is going to be a central theme at Google’s annual developer conference on Wednesday, as the company is planning to announce a number of generative AI updates, including launching a general-use large language model (LLM). On Wednesday, Google is expected to demo how AI can generate templates in Google Sheets and images in Slides and Meet.

💻 AI Productivity

Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s, is rolling out AI at its drive-thrus. The company’s are partnering with AI companies Presto Automation, OpenCity, and Valyant AI to automate voice ordering at participating drive-thru locations across the country. Carl's Jr. and Hardee's operate roughly 2,800 restaurants across 44 states. The partnerships are meant to boost accuracy, speed, and revenue and help fast-food chains manage staffing shortages.

AI-generated text detector GPTZero has launched a browser extension that can determine if online text is written by AI. The new tool, Origin, is designed to fact-check online media and will eventually be able to verify information sources, according to GPTZero.
